Sitting up and Carrots

What do these two things have in common? Nothing that I can think of except within this past week they have been two new skills Adi has added to her quickly growing bag of tricks. She was able to sit up all by herself without tipping over immediately. You still have to be sitting right there with her because she goes to grab for something and she face dives to the floor. But this weekend she was able to sit there a little longer without tipping to either side, she was even able to grab for something and still remain upright. I am savoring every minute of her immobility because I know it isn't going to last much longer!

We had been giving Adi rice cereal in her bottle but I realized that it was making her throw up a lot so I stopped and now it seems like she is just always hungry. Our pediatrician had recommended that we start with baby foods around 6 months so I decided last week was a good time to start spoon feeding her since she would be officially 6 months old on the 7th. I was trying to decide what would be the best food to start her off with and everything I read or heard was contradictory (I didn't even bother to check the baby books this time, it just upsets me that I didn't keep better records). As I was thinking about all the opinions I remembered Gar's love of carrots, or obsession with all foods orange. Look at this picture......

He ate so many jars of carrots that according to his pediatrician the beta carotine built up under his skin and turned his nose coloring orange. That was it, decision was made. On Saturday (April 4th) we loaded Adi into the high chair and gave her the first spoonful. I was expecting a bigger reaction but she just sort of ate it like it was nothing new to her, no funny faces at all. Now when she's sitting in her chair and see's the orange container she gets really excited and I can't feed her fast enough. Maybe we'll have another orange nosed tot around our house again.
